Proper nutrition and health are fundamental human rights.
Nutrition is a cornerstone that affects and defines the
health of all people, rich and poor. It paves the way for us
to grow, develop, work, play, resist infection and aspire to
realize our fullest potential as individuals and societies.
Conversely, malnutrition makes us more vulnerable to disease
and premature death.

What is nutrition? Nutrition is the process of getting the
right kind of food that is needed by the organism for a
proper growth and development. While poverty is the cause
for malnutrition in the developing countries, stress of work
has led to neglecting the basic requirement for health in
the developed countries. Our daily hectic life does not
allow us to take time and think of what we should eat. We
live in a world dominated by schedules and every aspect of
our existence is subordinated to that. This has serious
impact on our health. In order to lead a healthy life you
need to correct your eating habits.

A balanced nutritious diet based centered on nutrients is a
healthy diet. Nutrients are substances found in food that
nourish the body. Proper nutrition allows us to have a
shapely body with appropriate body weight. A balanced
amount of fat and muscle can help you carry out your daily
activities without straining your mentally or physically.
Nutritional disorders result when you don't get the right
amount of nutrients.

There are two groups of nutrients: macro nutrients and
micronutrients. Macronutrients include proteins, fats, some
minerals, water and carbohydrates. These are needed on a
daily basis in large quantities. Micronutrients are
vitamins and some minerals. They are also required daily
but in smaller doses. The FDA provides guidelines for a
healthy diet and nutritional requirements. It is important
to know that nutritional requirements vary based on age,
weight, sex, height and physical activities.

One of the first steps to eating healthy is to choose foods
that contain a low percentage of saturated fat. This will
help the body to decrease the level of blood cholesterol. It
is difficult to eliminate the intake of saturated fat at
once, but it can be done gradually. Another action is to
incorporate fruits and vegetables to your diet because they
have a high fiber level.

Basically, you need to take a lot of bread, cereal, rice,
and pasta and supplement it with vegetables and fruits in
sufficient quantities. You can further add products like
cheese, milk, yoghurt, meat, poultry, beans, beans, eggs and
nuts but in smaller quantities. Finally, bring your intake
of fats, oils and sweets to the minimum. If you follow the
basics of a nutritional balanced diet you can live a happy
and healthy life.
